Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have made history by becoming the first South African team to qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, which will be held in Ivory Coast in November 2023. The Hollywoodbets Super League champions secured their spot after winning Friday’s COSAFA regional qualifiers in Durban.

Sundowns Ladies faced Double Action Ladies from Botswana in the final and dominated the match from start to finish. They scored two goals in each half, with Chuene Mofiri, Nonhlanhla Mthandi, Melinda Kgadiete, and Andile Dlamini finding the back of the net. The final score was 4-0 in favor of the Brazilians, who lifted the trophy and celebrated their achievement.

Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala praised his players for their performance and dedication throughout the tournament. He said they were determined to represent the COSAFA region at the continental level and did so with flying colors. He also thanked the sponsors, fans, and management for their support and encouragement.

The CAF Women’s Champions League is a prestigious competition featuring Africa’s best women’s clubs. Sundowns Ladies had qualified for every tournament edition since its inception in 2021, when they also won the title. They hope to repeat their success in Ivory Coast, where they will face tough opponents from other regions.

Some teams already qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League finals are AS FAR from Morocco, Wadi Degla from Egypt, Rivers Angels from Nigeria, Hasaacas Ladies from Ghana, and Vihiga Queens from Kenya. The draw for the group stage will be conducted soon, and Sundowns Ladies will be eager to know their opponents.

Sundowns Ladies have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in African women’s football and have made their country proud. They will now prepare for the biggest challenge of their careers as they aim to bring home the CAF Women’s Champions League trophy for the second time.
