Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team is set to triumphantly return to their home turf for two thrilling matches against Brazil. The highly anticipated games are scheduled for Saturday, October 28, at Stade Saputo in Montréal and Tuesday, October 31, at Wanderers Grounds in Halifax. These matches mark Canada’s first steps on home soil after securing their spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games during last month’s home-and-away Concacaf W Olympic Play-In qualification series.

    A Rich Olympic History

Head Coach Bev Priestman was enthusiastic about facing Brazil, a team with Canada’s rich Olympic history. She believes that playing at home in front of their fans again, following the fantastic experience in September, will provide the perfect stage for the team to build momentum towards Paris 2024.

    Match Details

The Canada vs. Brazil series opening match will kick off at 14:30 ET on October 28. This game marks Canada’s return to Montréal for the first time since their victory over New Zealand in October 2021 as part of Canada’s Celebration Tour, following their historic Gold Medal achievement at the Tokyo Olympics.

The second leg of the series, scheduled for a 19:30 AT kick-off on October 31 in Halifax, is a significant moment for Canada Soccer’s Senior National Teams. It marks their return to the Maritimes for the first time since Canada’s Women’s National Team defeated China PR 1-0 in Moncton, thanks to a goal from the legendary Christine Sinclair in the spring of 2012.

    Canada’s Olympic Journey

Canada became the fifth nation to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, joining the hosts France, Concacaf champions USA, and CONMEBOL’s top-two countries, Brazil and Colombia. Seven more nations have yet to qualify for a field of 12 that will participate in next year’s prestigious event. As the reigning Olympic champions from 2021, Canada aims to continue its impressive legacy.

Canada vs. Brazil: A Thrilling Rivalry

Canada and Brazil share a storied history on the soccer field, dating back to their first encounter in 1996. Over the years, these two teams have been closely matched, with Canada holding a record of 10 wins, nine draws, and ten losses against Brazil. In their most recent meeting on February 19, 2023, at the She Believes Cup, Canada secured a 2-0 victory over Brazil, with goals from Vanessa Gilles and Evelyne Viens.

Soccer fans across Canada eagerly anticipate these upcoming matches, hoping for thrilling action, intense competition, and memorable moments as the Women’s National Team takes on Brazil on home soil.
