Recently, the Football Association (FA) has undergone significant changes in managing the FA Women’s National League. The FA Women’s National League Management Committee, the backbone of the league’s operational and administrative functions for the past decade, tendered their resignations. This announcement has prompted reflection and appreciation for their unwavering dedication to women’s football and marks a pivotal moment in the league’s history.

The FA Women’s National League Board and the entire women’s football community extend their heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to the outgoing committee members. Their contributions have been instrumental in nurturing the growth and competitiveness of the league over the last ten years. This period coincided with unprecedented expansion and interest in women’s football across all levels.

Since 2014, the Management Committee, operating entirely voluntarily, has tirelessly managed the intricate operations and administrative tasks needed to run the six divisions and reserve sections of the FA Women’s National League. Their dedication has been nothing short of remarkable, particularly in the context of the league’s expansion.

One cannot overlook the management committee’s increased responsibilities in recent years. Their willingness to take on these duties is a testament to their commitment and ambitious spirit. The football clubs and players they supported throughout this period are immensely grateful for their unwavering dedication and service to the league.

Baroness Sue Campbell, the Director of Women’s Football, expressed her gratitude. She said, “I would like to personally thank the Management Committee for their incredible commitment to The FA Women’s National League over several years. In particular, I would like to mention Carol West and Karen Falconer, who have been the driving force behind all of the excellent work the committee has done and have helped to ensure the league is the heartbeat of women’s football.”

To ensure the continued smooth operation of the league, the FA Women’s National League Board has called for the implementation of necessary services to support the company and its clubs as they move into the new season. This decision expands the FA’s strategic remit to encompass league operations, guaranteeing effective operational management throughout the 2023/24 season. The Women’s Football Pyramid team, housed within the Football Operations division, will step in temporarily to take on these responsibilities, demonstrating a firm commitment to assisting clubs in achieving another successful season.

While celebrating the remarkable growth of women’s football in recent years, it is essential to acknowledge the challenges raised by the departure of the Management Committee. The FA is resolute in its commitment to the FA Women’s National League strategy, and it is working diligently to enhance the support provided to those who play pivotal roles in managing and governing this crucial aspect of women’s football.

As we embark on this transitional period, it is a moment to reflect on the achievements and contributions of the outgoing Management Committee while embracing the future with renewed determination and enthusiasm. The FA Women’s National League remains a vital component of women’s football in England, and its continued success is a shared goal for all passionate about the beautiful game. The FA and the entire women’s football community stand united in their commitment to nurturing and advancing the sport for women nationwide.
