In a prestigious ceremony at the National Football Museum, former England internationals Jill Scott, Ellen White MBE, and Anita Asante were formally inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League Hall of Fame for 2023. The induction is a testament to the remarkable careers of these Lionesses legends, who collectively contributed over 360 top-flight appearances and more than 80 goals to women’s football in England.

Jill Scott, a dynamic midfielder, gained recognition for her stellar contributions with Everton, Manchester City, and Aston Villa. With an impressive 175 WSL appearances, Scott scored 22 goals and clinched numerous domestic trophies, including four Women’s FA Cups, three Continental Tyres League Cups, and a league title. Her illustrious career also extended to international success, notably helping the Lionesses secure their first-ever international trophy at the 2020 European Championship.

Hailing from Aylesbury, Ellen White made a significant impact as a prolific goal-scorer, notching an impressive 61 goals across 144 league appearances for Arsenal, Notts County, Birmingham City, and Manchester City. White’s goal-scoring prowess earned her the title of the league’s all-time leading scorer at a point in time. She secured nine domestic trophies throughout her career, including back-to-back league titles in 2011 and 2012 with Arsenal.

Anita Asante played a pivotal role in shaping the foundations of women’s football in England, notably during her successful stint with Arsenal in the noughties. Her achievements with Arsenal included a historic quadruple in 2006/2007, as the Gunners triumphed in the UEFA Women’s Cup, FA Women’s National Premier League, FA Women’s Cup, and the FA Women’s Premier League. This accomplishment marked the first time a team outside Germany or Scandinavia had claimed the UEFA Women’s Cup.

The induction of Scott, White, and Asante into the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame adds them to an esteemed group of football personalities, including Chelsea manager Emma Hayes, Karen Carney MBE, and Arsenal legend Kelly Smith. Inductees were selected by the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame selection panel, comprising former players, coaches, officials, journalists, and FA staff, recognizing the significant impact these players had on the growth and success of women’s football in England.
