The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) gears up for an international showdown as they announced their 26-player roster to compete in two upcoming friendlies against China. U.S. Soccer revealed the squad today, introducing fresh faces ready to join the fray.
The USWNT is slated to confront China in friendly encounters on December 2nd at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale and on December 5th at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. Among the roster’s notable additions are Jenna Nighswonger, honored as the 2023 NWSL Rookie of the Year, and Korbin Albert, both set to attend their maiden USWNT camp. Interim coach Twila Kilgore is taking the helm against China, who meticulously handpicked the roster in line with the comprehensive strategy outlined by U.S. Soccer’s sporting director Matt Crocker and newly appointed USWNT head coach Emma Hayes. Notably, Hayes will continue her managerial duties with Chelsea FC Women until the conclusion of the WSL season.
“In moving forward with our plans, we recognize the importance of providing more opportunities for players within our pool to experience our unique National Team environment, both in training and match scenarios, enabling us to assess their potential contributions for upcoming events such as the Olympics,” remarked Kilgore in a released statement. “While we highly value the talents of those who have recently participated in camps or major tournaments like the World Cup and are not part of this roster, we remain aware of their immense capabilities both on and off the field. Simultaneously, we seek to evaluate and nurture players in the most conducive manner, ensuring the team’s optimal chances for success.”
The USWNT roster comprises:
Goalkeepers (3): Jane Campbell (Houston Dash), Aubrey Kingsbury (Washington Spirit), Casey Murphy (North Carolina Courage)
Defenders (7): Alana Cook (OL Reign), Abby Dahlkemper (San Diego Wave), Tierna Davidson (Chicago Red Stars), Emily Fox (North Carolina Courage), Naomi Girma (San Diego Wave), Casey Krueger (Chicago Red Stars), M.A. Vignola (Angel City)
