Wolfsburg women’s team is one of the most successful and dominant teams in German and European women’s football. The group, which is part of the VfL Wolfsburg sports club, has won multiple titles and trophies in domestic and international competitions and has produced some of the best players in the world.

    History and Achievements

Wolfsburg women’s team was founded in 2003 when it joined the VfL Wolfsburg sports club, which also has a men’s football team, as well as teams in other sports such as basketball, handball, and badminton. The women’s team started playing in the top division of Germany, the Bundesliga, in 2005 after gaining promotion from the second division.

    Since then, Wolfsburg women’s team has established itself as one of the top teams in the country, winning six Bundesliga titles (2013, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020), nine DFB-Pokal titles (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022), and one DFB-Supercup title (2020).

Wolfsburg women’s team has also made history in European football, winning two UEFA Women’s Champions League titles (2013 and 2014) and reaching the final four more times (2016, 2018, 2020, and 2021). The team is the only German team to have won the treble (Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and UEFA Women’s Champions League) twice (in 2013 and 2014) and the only team to have defended the UEFA Women’s Champions League title.

    Players and Staff

Wolfsburg women’s team has a roster of talented and experienced players from different countries and backgrounds. Some of the current stars of the group are:

    • Alexandra Popp: The captain and striker of the team, who has scored over 100 goals for Wolfsburg since joining in 2012. She is also the captain and a vital player of the German national team.
    • Ewa Pajor: The Polish forward who is one of the most prolific scorers in Europe. She won the Bundesliga top scorer award 2019 with 24 goals in 20 games.
    • Lena Oberdorf: The young midfielder is considered one of the best prospects in German football. She joined Wolfsburg in 2020 from Essen and has already become a regular starter for club and country.
    • Dominique Janssen: The Dutch defender who is versatile and reliable. She joined Wolfsburg in 2020 from Arsenal and has helped the team win several trophies. She is also a vital player of the Netherlands national team.

The head coach of the Wolfsburg women’s team is Tommy Stroot, who took over in July 2021 from Stephan Lerch. Stroot is a former player and coach of FC Twente women’s team in his native Netherlands. He is known for his attacking and attractive style of play. The sporting director of Wolfsburg women’s team is Ralf Kellermann, the team’s previous head coach from 2008 to 2017. He led the team to many successes and trophies during his tenure.

Wolfsburg women’s team is a force to reckon with in German and European football. The team has a rich history of achievements and a strong squad of players and staff. The team is always aiming for more glory and excellence in every competition they participate in.
