Chelsea FC Women have launched a fertility fund that will give every first‑team player access to fertility assessments, treatment, counselling and educational support. The club says the programme is intended to help players make informed decisions about family planning while managing elite careers.

    What the fund offers

The programme covers a package of services aimed at reproductive health. That includes baseline fertility assessments, pathways to assisted fertility treatment where required, psychological support and targeted education about reproductive options and timing. The fund is structured so that players can access services confidentially and without having to meet a means test or seek outside approval.

    How the partnership works

The club has partnered with Fertility Plus to deliver clinical care and counselling. The external provider will handle medical assessments and any treatments. Chelsea will fund access for squad members and coordinate on education sessions tailored for elite athletes.

Why the move matters for players

The announcement responds to practical pressures that affect many women in elite sport. Professional athletes often face a compressed window for childbearing because of peak performance years, contract cycles and the physical demands of pregnancy and postpartum return. Having a dedicated fund and clinical partner recognises those constraints and gives players clearer options without forcing a choice between career and family planning.

Wider context in the women’s game

Fertility support for athletes has become a topic of discussion across sports. Clubs and federations are increasingly being asked to provide more comprehensive healthcare that reflects the lifecycle needs of women. Offering assessments, treatment and counselling is one way clubs can retain players longer and support wellbeing off the pitch.

    Next steps and implementation

The club says the fund will roll out immediately to the first‑team squad, with clinicians from the partner organisation conducting initial assessments and setting out personalised care plans. Education sessions will form part of the season’s medical and welfare programme. The model could be expanded or adapted over time depending on demand and the experiences of participants.

The move closes a practical gap in provision and signals a shift in how clubs address reproductive health as part of player care. It places medical support for family planning alongside existing services for injury, nutrition and mental health.
